This is the sixth in the series of cozy mysteries involving Maggie Newberry, an American living in a small French village with her ex-conman turned vintner Laurent, their expanding family and friends. There is an overall story arc to this series so to truly follow the story begin at the beginning and proceed in order as much as possible.As this story begins Maggie and Laurent are settling into life as new parents. Maggie's best friend Grace and her daughter Zouzou are still living with them and helping Maggie contend with her continuing homesickness and struggle to learn French. Out of the blue Maggie's long estranged brother Ben calls to announce that he and his wife were planning on stopping in for a visit after a tour they were taking ended. Maggie has some reservations about the visit but realizes that she has no choice. Little did she realize that the visit was going to once again put her on the trail of a murderer.This is a charming series that has a great deal of potential. The characters are interesting, the setting is delightful but unfortunately there are some annoying problems - mostly with continuity. Events from previous novels are altered from one book to the next. The descriptions of the characters, even the main ones varies at random, sometime in the same book, which makes it difficult to get a real feel for them. Also the characters sometimes behave in the most irrational ways. In this novel Maggie gleefully hands her newborn off to someone she hasn't seen in years and then agonizes over whether or not she is neglecting her family. Even with the problems this is an interesting series it just could be a much better one with a good editor.
