I decided to read Saving Justice after reading Jim Comey's "A Higher Loyalty." Jim Comey is an excellent writer with clear exposition. He's easy to read and follow. In "Saving Justice," Comey runs through selected cases and experiences he's had in the Department of Justice and the FBI. Each case is designed to illustrate a particular moral, ethical situation, how would justice be best served to make larger points about how he approached his career as a Justice and FBI offical. He does this well. The issue I have with Comey and this book is that he uses the book to shape a narrative of how he's the good guy propelled throughout his career in the sole quest for justice, the rule of law, that he is above politics and that humility has guided him. The book is self-serving. I have difficulty believing all this. I believe he has done many good things in his career and that he truly cares about our country, the rule of law and our democracy. But I still have real doubts about the way he handled the Hillary Clinton matter that led to our 4 year tortured nightmare with trump. He can is responsible, in part, for Hillary Clinton's loss He ignored the long-standing policy of the FBI and Justice Department to avoid coment on caess 90 days prior to an election. I readily also admit the Clinton was a divisive figure and a poor candidate in her own right which cost her the election. My takeaway from Saving Justice is it's an interesting read and a self-interested reshaping of his career and our recent history as a nation.
